Time periods:  The unit has nine user-settable channels that can be set with an exercising and changing time.  The times can be set using a range of 1-99 seconds or 0.1-9.9 minutes.  A popular selection is 60 seconds for exercising and 20 seconds for changing apparatus.  (Custom programming is available to do other sequences)

An infrared remote control (like a TV remote) is included.  The unit can also be turned on and off from the remote control.
