Controllers

In addition to custom controllers of all kinds, ScoreTronics offers a standard display controller board to drive ScoreTronics 5 x 7 matrix panels in large and small public displays.  The ScoreTronics SC4200 has the following hardware features:

SC4200:

1.  Capable of driving four lines times 20 panels per line.  In character mode (one character per 5 x 7 panel) this is four lines times 20 characters per line.  In graphics mode this is four lines of 100 dot columns per line (28 x 100 dots).

2.  Two RS-232 interfaces with available cables to connect directly to a 9 pin PC or other RS-232 interfaces.

3.  Two RS-485 interfaces, for communication over long cables.

4.  Power supply 15-30 volts DC.  The needed power supply voltage is determined by the voltage drops in the cables between the controller board and the matrix panels.

5.  Extremely low power consumption.  During updates (less than one second), the current requirement is approximately 4 amps (70 watts).  During idle, the current drops to milliamps (1-2 watts).  Remember that this is for a display that can be over 6 by 21 FEET.

6.  Significant processing power and program memory:  16 Mhz RISC (AVR MEGA128) processor, with 128K of flash based program memory can handle virtually any task with ease.

7.  Battery backed clock and calendar.   Onboard EEPROM to retain storage of recent events.

8.  Auxiliary connector with many digital in/out and analog in/out pins to allow the addition of customer specified inputs and outputs, for instance roadway fog sensors, vehicle counts, factory productivity monitors, etc.

9.  Can be ordered in semi-populated versions with less lines or columns to reduce cost.  Board size reduction is also possible depending on the needed lines and columns.

10.  Standard software accepts RS232 input and displays characters or graphics.  Custom software to do practically any customer specified function is available.

11.  Built-in surge protection and self protecting drivers.

12.  Board size: 10" by 13" for the full 4 by 20 configuration.  The SC4200 and standard power supply will fit in a 12" by 18" box.

13.  Low cost.  The price of this board is a fraction of other available flip-dot controllers.  Contact ScoreTronics for pricing.

The SC4200 can be programmed to do a variety of tasks, for example, a gas station price sign, a museum display, highway VMS sign, draw bridge opening time count down, and a variety of other applications.  Contact ScoreTronics with the details of your application.
